Things To Do In Ardmore
Ardmore - 10 minutes by car from our self catering accommodation
Ardmore is a small village 6 miles from Old Parish. It has a great beach, a playground for the children and is full of history with a round tower and church ruins.
The Round tower was used as a look out post many centuries ago. Note the doorway half way up, you could throw down a ladder for your friends and pull it up quickly when you saw your enemies. The windows were made very narrow so that only the best archer could get an arrow through. There is also a church and at the gable end there are bible scenes depicted, The Judgment of Solomon, St John the Baptist baptising Jesus, Adam & Eve and the apple. Check out the ogham stones featuring ancient Irish script, inside the church ruin.
Ardmore has a number of restaurants including the
Cliff House Hotel which has a Michelin star - worth going for a drink or afternoon tea to enjoy the views from the hotel. For something more relaxed but fantastic, why not eat out at the White Horses Restaurant 024 94040..
If you feel energetic, you can take the Cliff walk from the Hotel Carpark and it will bring you along the cliff to the round tower. The scenery is fabulous but the path is narrow and not recommended for the under 7's as there is no barrier. Along this walk you will discover St Declan's Well.
